Physical Causes PDF Print E-mail

It is possible that a variety of physical, muscular or neurological conditions may be the cause of your prostatitis.

   *  Injury to the spine in the lower back can cause symptoms of prostatitis.

   *  Pelvic Floor Muscles can cause a state of tension.

   *  A physical partial blockage in the urethra may cause backflow or urine reflux, causing prostate inflammation.

Prostatitis as a Pelvic Floor Tension Disorder :

Consideration of pelvic muscle tension as a cause of Chronic Prostatitis is relatively new and controversial.  If there is...

    * no evidence of infection in urine or prostatic fluid
    * no evidence of disease in the prostate or pelvic floor
    * urinary frequency and urgency
    * dysuria or burning during or after urination
    * a need to urinate even after one has just urinated
    * some sense of pelvic discomfort

it is possible that treatment methods to relax the pelvic floor muscles may bring about a reduction in symptoms.
