Chronic abacterial prostatitis, or chronic pelvic pain syndrome, is generally defined as pelvic or perineal pain in the absence of pathogenic bacteria in expressed prostatic secretions.

It is often associated with urgency, frequency, hesitancy, and poor interrupted flow of urination.

Symptoms also can include pain in the suprapubic region, low back, penis, testes, or scrotum. Chronic abacterial prostatitis may be inflammatory (white cells being present in prostatic secretions) or noninflammatory (white cells being absent in prostatic secretions)

The cause of abacterial prostatitis is not clear. It may be caused by infections of Chlamydia trachomatis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma hominis, and Trichomonas vaginalis.  Other possible causes include inflammation, hormonal imbalances, autoimmunity, pelvic floor tension, prostatic urinary reflux, and psychological problems.

The Western Medical establishment reports most cases of chronic prostatitis as being abacterial. However our Clinic has found that the vast majority of cases are bacterial.  Why the difference?  Simply that many physicians have difficulty isolating the causative pathogens.
